Autism and International Culture

An awareness of autism itself in the world began slowly growth up in international areas. There are several organizations that profit or non-profit, spreading up the awareness and acceptance about autism spectrum in the world. Since International Statistical Classification of Disease (ICD) released up on public and medical uses, who has invented by World Health Organization (WHO), autism spectrum being a concern of essential unknown causes worldwide disease that must be overlook for general audiences. In ICD, since ICD-10 to ICD-11, there are many significant overlooks of prognosis diagnose of autism spectrum. Starting from autism spectrum in ICD-10 that starting on classification of pervasive developmental disorder that many varies on classifications; such as childhood/classic autism, Rett syndrome, Asperger syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS). Then in ICD-11, autism spectrum itself has divided into five categories of severity levels: autism with disorder of intellectual development and without disorder of intellectual development, autism with mild or no impairment of functional language, autism with impaired functional language, and autism with complete or almost complete absence of functional language.

Back into 1962, there are non-profit organization that occur on patient with autism spectrum. In United Kingdom, a group of parents with autistic children being afraid if their children have been diagnosed with childhood schizophrenia. Since the conditional experimental of the triad of impairments of autism spectrum, one of them, Lorna Wing, starting the organization with other employees in 1980s called as the National Autistic Society.

National Autistic Society is the non-profit organization that runs and growths up on United Kingdom and other residents of around it. In 1984, this non-profit community made the phenomenal puzzle piece that places up as a first symbol of being autistic.

How about other countries?

In 2005 in United States of America, there is a one of successor of non-profit organization that changes the perspection of autistic world in the worldwide, call as Autism Speaks.

Autism Speaks is the non-profit organization that developed among combined three other non-profit organization: Autism Coalition for Research and Education, National Alliance for Autism Research, and Cure Autism Now. The key of Autism Speaks was from the former of vice chairman of General Electric, call as Bob Wright and his wife, Suzanne, and his grandson, Christian, who being an autistic patient. The phenomenal events of Autism Speaks itself is the campaign of “Light it Up Blue” in 2018, which in autism awareness day, all institutes must or should be arise the awareness with light blue environment.

Another mess media in United States of America that also promote with autism campaign is Autism Parenting Magazine. Founded in 2012, this non-profit organization focuses on digital or paper publishing about autism awareness for parent purpose, as same as the organization name up. What an achievement of this non-profit organization is the mass digital media that make parents to be obvious to documenting their autistic patient, no matter is the children or adults.

The last one, from the eastern countries that belongs to United Kingdom, Australia. In 2007, same goes as Autism Speaks arises up, a parent with autistic patient in Australia trying to spread the awareness into general purposes in the eastern country, especially Indonesian and Chinese territory.

This non-profit organization, call as Autism Awareness Australia, being grows up as the organization that providing a service for foreigner especially Australian people. What a special appearance of this organization is none, unless it is funded by Australian Government for medical purpose.

Therefore, an autism awareness and acceptance campaign must be spread out into other countries, especially with dense-up people population such as Russia, India, Indonesia, or maybe on Chinese territory.
